Spend your next Oklahoma weekend getaway in McCurtain County.

We are just a couple of hours by car from Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Shreveport. A short drive takes you far away from the noise and traffic and congestion and into the mountains and forests with a beautiful, deep mountain lake and cool flowing rivers.

A weekend in Oklahoma’s McCurtain County is all about the outdoors. You can spend the day on Broken Bow Lake, a deep mountain lake surrounded by the McCurtain Wilderness area and the Ouachita National Forest. There is almost now commercial development on the shores of Broken Bow Lake so you will enjoy natural scenic beauty where ever you go.

Your weekend getaway can also include trophy trout fishing. The lower Mountain Fork River flows out of the Broken Bow Lake dam and provides year-round fishing for Brown and Rainbow trout. The Oklahoma Brown trout record was caught here (17-pound, 4.64-ounce) in 2005.

Bird watching is also a popular weekend activity especially at the Red Slough Wildlife Management area. This premier bird watching and waterfowl hunting area has sighted more than 270 bird species, including many that are rare to Oklahoma and not found elsewhere in the state. Birders have likened this area to the Gulf Coast habitats of Louisiana and Florida.
