Oklahoma State Record Brown Trout

It has been said that records are made to be broken, but on April 10, 2005, Oklahoma's state record for brown trout of 9 pounds, 12 3/4 ounces, was not only broken, it was shattered! Whether it's Brown Trout on the Lower Mountain Fork River or fly fishing for Rainbows, Oklahoma Trout Fishing is fantastic!

There are several outstanding opportunities for trout fishing in McCurtain County. The Lower Mountain Fork River offers 14 pristine miles of trout habitat. As a tailwater fishery flowing out of Broken Bow Lake, it includes  3.8 miles of Trophy Oklahoma Fly Fishing action where boats and barbed hooks are banned.

Other Oklahoma Fly Fishing opportunities are exceptional on both the Reservoir as well as in the Mountain Fork River. The main river species include smallmouth bass and panfish. The Lower Mountain Fork River is a designated trout area includes the area below Broken Bow Dam and offers year-round Oklahoma trout fishing for both rainbow as well as huge brown trout using either spin casting or fly fishing equipment. You can also choose to fly fish the Upper Mountain Fork and Eagle Fork Rivers for Neosho-strain smallmouth, Kentucky spotted bass, largemouth bass, pan-fish, and a seasonal run of walleye and sand bass.
